COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) update

COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) update

Important information - updated 7 April 2020

We are currently operating at Alert Level 4(external link). NMIT campuses in Nelson, Blenheim, Richmond and Woodbourne are closed.

NMIT is committed to prioritising the safety of our students and ensuring everyone is well-informed and able to continue with planned study.

Classes are now being delivered fully online and learners are expected to continue with their studies from home. We intend to front load all theory learning over the next few months and delay practical learning requirements until later this year. Assessment methods may change and if so you will be informed by your curriculum area.

There is no change to NMIT’s scheduled term breaks.  Following the term break, and unless otherwise advised by your curriculum area, lessons will resume on Thursday 30 April.

Once the period of self-isolation comes to an end and we reopen, NMIT will be well prepared to backfill any practical elements, workshops, laboratory simulations and to arrange the necessary practical/on the job training.

The NMIT executive and management are meeting regularly to find solutions to all your concerns. We continue to support learners who have been unable to travel home.  This includes checking in on those who live in rental accommodations locally, as well as maintaining pastoral care.

Click on COVID-19 Student information at the bottom of this page to find answers to some of the questions you may be asking, email addresses for NMIT assistance and links to other sites that may assist you. This information is updated on a regular basis as changes occur and more information is received from government agencies on financial hardship, work rights and possible next steps.

We know this is an uncertain time for our communities and our thoughts are with you all. If we all pull together, we will come through this.

Updates will be provided via the website, email and other channels as information is confirmed.
